Nia Lynn Artistic Director of MSF

Bringing Shakespeare to life through voice, body, and breath.

Nia Lynn is an internationally renowned voice and text coach, performance director, and singer whose work has graced some of the world’s most prestigious stages—including the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Globe, The Donmar Warehouse, and the National Theatre of Wales. As the Artistic Director of the Montague Shakespeare Festival, Nia brings decades of experience and a deeply embodied approach to performance that empowers actors to connect fully with Shakespeare’s language—and with their audiences.

Nia’s unique approach fuses rigorous voice work with movement, breath, and physical storytelling. “A great Shakespearean performance doesn’t start on the stage. It starts in the body,” she says. “If an actor is connected to their physicality, they will be connected to their voice, and through that, to the audience.” This philosophy guides every rehearsal room she leads, whether she's directing Macbeth at MSF or coaching actors for major television and film productions across the UK and US.

Her credits are as varied as they are impressive: voice and text coach for RSC productions including The Alchemist, The Merchant of Venice, Wendy & Peter Pan, and Taming of the Shrew; performance director for the Olivier-nominated Goat (Rambert Dance Company); accent and voice coach for Bridgerton, The Great Escaper, and The Serpent Queen; and director of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Galwad (SkyArts). Nia is also an Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music and a beloved educator at institutions like NTI, Guildhall, and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

At MSF, Nia is not only directing the festival’s flagship production, but also leading transformative actor training workshops. Her presence infuses the festival with a rare level of professional excellence—rooted in deep empathy, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to making Shakespeare vibrant and accessible to all.

“I’m thrilled to bring my experience from the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Globe to this vibrant community,” Nia says. “At MSF, Shakespeare belongs to everyone.”

The festival also promises the debut of new creations, born out of Shakespeare’s texts, woven seamlessly under Lynn’s guidance. These performances will showcase the depth and versatility of Shakespeare’s works in an era that reflects contemporary realities while keeping the beauty of the original scripts intact.
